Most recently, Castor was with Aetna in Hartford, Conn., where he was chief technology officer. Castor also has served as CIO for U.S. Healthcare and as a director of various technology departments at Smith-Kline Beecham during his career.

Integra Group, Mason, Ohio, hired Thomas E. Brackmann as CIO to head the company’s information technology and telecommunications initiatives. Brackmann joins Integra from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield where he was executive director for managed care technologies. The Integra Group is a health and managed care organization management company.

Diane J. Aschman was named COO and division vice president of SNOMED International by the College of American Pathologists, responsible for development and business-related activities. Prior to joining SNOMED, Aschman was health research network division head for APACHE Medical Systems, Reston, Va. She has also held executive positions with Dun & Bradstreet Health Care Information and Baxter Healthcare’s Management Services Division. SNOMED has received considerable attention in healthcare IT as a standard nomenclature for medical terminology.

LanVision, Cincinnati, announced the appointment of Mary Ellen Mahoney as senior director of corporate development. Mahoney joins LanVision from Ernst & Young where she was practice leader for the firm’s healthcare document imaging operation. Mahoney has 20 years experience in the healthcare industry.

Neurological surgery practice management company, NeuroSource Inc., Chicago, announced it has hired Gustave Barreda to manage the company’s planned investment in information technology. As vice president of technology and CIO, Barreda will be responsible for acquisition and implementation of administrative and patient care information systems. Barreda was previously a director of international technologies for Caremark International/Baxter Healthcare.
