As new types of healthcare collaboratives are formed, such as health information exchanges and accountable care organizations, one topic remains front and center— IT governance. Having the effective leadership teams in place will be necessary to guide the transformative operational and IT changes mandated by healthcare reform. At its annual conference this year, HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) has published a book titled IT Governance in Hospitals and Health Systems, co-authored by Roger Kropf, Ph.D., and Guy Scalzi. Healthcare Informatics Associate Editor Jennifer Prestigiacomo caught up with Scalzi on the exhibition floor at the HCI booth (#5324) to find out what were the keys to a successful governance process and how the CIO fit into all that.
