“Do more with less” constraints have become an unwelcome refrain for healthcare providers. To its credit, enterprise imaging vendor ScImage, Inc. has transformed this restrictive theme into a valuable benefit, promoting their “no forklift required” message at HIMSS15 in Chicago. This isn’t a recent revelation either. The company has never required a forklift upgrade in their 22 year history.
“One of the biggest complaints we regularly hear is the cost of ‘upgrading’ a PACS.” said Richard Taylor, Director of National Sales for ScImage. “Many vendors require a full forklift upgrade, not simply for the hardware, but for the new ‘platform’.” When you factor in the platform cost, OS and database upgrades, professional services and other fees, it ends up costing nearly the same as a new PACS installation.”
ScImage’s approach is unique in that a major platform change does not change the foundation of what the customer purchased: an enterprise imaging solution. Adding features and functions, like recently released enterprise interoperability tools, enhances the foundation for all customers but does not invoke a hidden forklift clause.
“Facilities are hard pressed to find financial resources for all the projects required to stay up-to-date with Meaningful Use. Being saddled with a prohibitively expensive upgrade is simply not practical,” noted Mr. Taylor.
“Our “no forklift required” policy has been in place since day one and really does provide an incredible value to our customers, some of whom have been valued partners for nearly 20 years. Sadly, few, if any, imaging companies are willing to provide added value without significant added cost,” Taylor added.
“No forklift required” is one in a series of messages the company is offering at HIMSS. Their “No image left behind” message talks about integrating non-traditional imaging, including documents, into their single enterprise imaging database. Using this enterprise-viewing solution insures the integrity and availability of clinical data and puts all required information at the clinician’s fingertips. This eliminates compromised interpretations when prior images and reports are not available for comparison.
