We endeavor to find the latest and greatest in healthcare IT. As such, our editors are now traveling around the country, touring hospitals for our new Virtual Hospital Tour features. Instead of booking a flight (OK, I’m too far along, and am not allowed to fly anymore), I set out on my own in-town tour. My tour was not exactly a virtual one, where a CIO escorted me around. Mine, was led by a very nice nurse (ironically, the same person who taught my infant CPR class the weekend before). She toured a group of 40 or so, soon-to-be parents to show us how things would go on D-Day (delivery day) for us and our babies-to-be. What I found, was that HIT has become almost second-nature as it’s being relied on to provide care, from the automated labor and delivery folding bed, to the mother and baby monitors in the L&D room. And as nervous as I am for my big day to arrive, I feel reassured to know how HIT will help.
