The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has chosen eClinicalWorks to provide select hospitals with electronic medical records

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has chosen eClinicalWorks to provide select hospitals with electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solutions. The $19.8 million deal is part of NYC's Primary Care Information Project (PCIP) initiative.

PCIP is part of a $27 million Mayor Bloomberg initiative to support the adoption of EHRs among providers caring for the city's underserved and vulnerable populations.

As part of PCIP, the city will purchase licenses from eClinicalWorks, which will then be deployed in individual practices fitting a predetermined criteria set by the project, says eClinicalWorks.

Initially, 1,300 physicians serving the city's neediest communities are implementing eClinicalWorks EMR/PM, with the potential of expanding to additional providers.

eClinicalWorks, based in Westborough, Mass., will be opening an office in Manhattan to centrally manage this initiative.
