3M Health Information Systems (St. Paul, Minn.), a provider of software and services, has expanded its suite of 3M Medical Necessity Dictionaries to offer new regulatory content and reference tools.

According to 3M, its updated software is designed to help hospitals and physician practices meet federal reporting requirements of the 2007 Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI). The PQRI is a voluntary Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) program that rewards physicians for reporting their performance against 74 quality measures.

The 3M Medical Necessity Dictionary for PQRI provides access to codes found in each individual PQRI quality measure, making it possible to retrieve the data needed to fulfill CMS reporting requirements, the company says. In addition, 3M contends the updated content provides links to CMS PQRI worksheets for documentation and reporting by physicians and coders.
