Washington Hospital Center (Washington, D.C.) and the Noblis Center for Health Innovation (Falls Church, Va.) are teaming up on a research project designed to improve hospital patient flow.

According to the company, the initiative’s goal is to develop a tool that provides situational-based strategies for effective hospital bed capacity management. Based on patient flow data collected during the initial phase of testing at Washington, Noblis will tailor the hospital simulation software to test different patient flow strategies.

Ideally, the end product will be a software tool that has both descriptive and predictive capabilities, says the company.

Results from the research project are expected to be released in October.

Washington Hospital is a not-for-profit 926-bed acute care teaching and research hospital based in Northwest area of the city.
