Washington-based The Leapfrog Group says it is "extremely pleased" with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services  (CMS) rule regarding nonpayment

Washington-based The Leapfrog Group says it is "extremely pleased" with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rule regarding nonpayment of certain hospital-acquired conditions starting this October.

On August 1, 2007, CMS issued a final rule to update the hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) for fiscal year 2008 by setting out new requirements for the Reporting Hospital Quality Data for Annual Payment Update program: Beginning with the payment update for FY 2007, the annual percentage increase amount will be reduced by 2.0 percentage points for any hospitals that do not submit certain quality data.

Medicare's new rule includes only three of the 28 types of events included in the Leapfrog Never Events policy. Click here for Leapfrog's full list of events.
