Tobias C. Samo, M.D., has been named chief medical officer at Atlanta-based Eclipsys Corporation, where he will work with senior executives to help establish long-term clinical strategies and short-term priorities for the company’s clinical solutions, it says. Samo will also be responsible for executive-level and physician sales support.
Most recently, he was medical director of information technology at the Houston-based Methodist Hospital and vice president of medical informatics at Physia Corporation (Vienna, Va.). Prior to those positions, Samo was in a full-time private practice specializing in infectious diseases.
Samo has worked as a consultant in healthcare information technology since 2005, and is a clinical professor at both the department of internal medicine section of infectious diseases at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston) and the department of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He is a member of the Health Information Management and Systems Society’s Advocacy and Public Policy Steering Committee and the Texas Medical Association Health Information Technology Workgroup.
