Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa announced they have selected Austin, Texas-based e-MDs, a electronic health records (EHRs) and practice management (PM) solution company, to provide and aid in the implementation of the clinic's EHR system. Cass County Memorial Hospital is an 11 provider practice with multiple locations throughout the city as well as a Rural Health Clinic (RHC). e-MDs and Cass County have already begun the implementation process.

The hospitals' selection of e-MDs follows last month's announcement that the company has been selected as a Preferred Vendor by Iowa's Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (HITREC). This accolade, in addition to several successful site visits, demonstrations, reference calls, the ability to go live quickly and become eligible for CMS incentive payments tied to being a Meaningful User of certified EHR technology, secured e-MDs as the favored vendor for Cass County Memorial Hospital's EHR integration plan. e-MDs Solution Series integrated EHR/PM suite offered the hospital ease of use, a single data base solution as well as the ability to handle institutional and professional claims.

e-MDs is currently supporting the hospital through the initial stages of implementation, assisting with a clinical conversion and working on several interfaces to the system. Cass County Memorial Hospital hopes to carry out a "big bang" implementation. With the aid of e-MDs and the Cass County internal IT staff they will be switching everything from their current system integrated solution over to the integrated e-MDs Solution Series EHR and Practice Management system at once.
