Catherine Bruno, vice president and CIO of the non-profit hospital system, Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, based out of Brewer, Maine, won the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium 2012 Award for Innovation Leadership at the ninth annual MIT Sloan CIO Symposium in Cambridge, Mass. Bruno, who is also an executive sponsor for the nationally recognized Bangor Beacon Community, shared the award with Chris Perretta, executive vice president and CIO of State Street Corporation.
Bruno has developed information systems and strategic plans, as well as governance for Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems’ three healthcare organizations. She has implemented CPOE, and other major clinical, integrated systems within the community. Bruno also won the Nicholas R. Davies Organizational Award, the nation’s highest award for implementation of a system-wide Electronic Health Record, by the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS).
As the executive sponsor of Bangor Beacon Community, she helps head up one of 17 communities in the U.S. to receive a $12.75 million grant to improve the health of the people in the local community through care management. She was asked by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) to co-chair the Leadership and Governance Community of Practice for the national Beacon program.
The MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Award for Innovation Leadership honors CIOs who lead their organizations to pursue the innovative use of Information Technology (IT) and business processes to deliver business value.
