Bryan Sivak has been named the new Health and Human Services (HHS) chief technology officer (CTO) taking over for Todd Park, who departed to fill the same position for the U.S.  In a Twitter announcement, HHS welcomed Sivak, who is departing as chief innovation officer for the State of Maryland.

On his own Twitter account, Sivak, said, he was excited to continue the amazing work that was started by HHS and Park. He also said it was an honor and a privilege to work for the State of Maryland. Before his position at Maryland, Sivak served as the CTO for the District of Columbia, and co-founded a management software company named InQuir, which was eventually acquired by Oracle, and Electric Knowledge LLC, which provided one of the first natural language search engines on the web. Sivak is widely known for promoting open data and open government initiatives, much like his predecessor.

According to a statement from HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, “Working in partnership with Chief Technology Officer of the United States Todd Park, Bryan will ensure that the Department’s innovation initiatives continue to move ahead at full speed. We will benefit tremendously from his creativity, experience, and fresh ideas as we continue our work to harness the power of data and technology to improve the health of the nation.”
