HIMSS Analytics, the research arm of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, has recognized 50 of the Kansas City, Mo.-based Truman Medical Centers (TMC) ambulatory clinics with its Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

The award represents Truman Medical Center’s ambulatory clinics attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.

Developed in 2011, the EMR Ambulatory Adoption Model provides a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for ambulatory facilities owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. Stage 7 represents the highest level of EMR adoption and indicates a health system’s advanced electronic patient record environment.

Through the second fiscal quarter of 2013, only 1.16 percent, of the more than 19,085 U.S. ambulatory clinics in the HIMSS Analytics Database, have received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

“TMC made a concerted investment in being a leader in the realm of electronic medical record system implementation, and our team has achieved remarkable success in not only putting us in the upper echelon of health systems across the nation in this category, but also, bringing about a significant cultural focus on providing the most efficient, state-of-the-art quality healthcare to our patients,” TMC president and CEO John Bluford, said in a statement. “Our Stage 7 Ambulatory Award is a testament to the unwavering support and collaborative buy-in of our entire medical staff, executive team and especially our board leadership.”
