Infection surveillance systems, outreach services and patient acuity are poised for growth, according to a recent Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics report.
The report, Essentials of the U.S. Hospital IT Market, Summer 2014 Edition, details clinical applications (27 in total) that are not included in the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). The two applications with the biggest opportunity-projected sales volumes—were infection surveillance systems and patient acuity applications as well as laboratory outreach services.
“As the healthcare IT industry shifts its focus to technology that empowers clinical efficacy and preventative care, it is not surprising that first-time sales outlook for these three applications is so positive,” Lorren Pettit, vice president of Market Research for HIMSS Analytics, said in a statement. “The findings suggest that opportunities for lab and nursing application vendors are ripe in this maturing market
HIMSS Analytics looked at clinical applications through five categories: cardiology and cardiology picture archiving and communication system (PACS), laboratory, nursing, select service lines, and utilization review. Of the 27 applications, the research firm says, nine are marked as saturated and experience marginal to accelerating growth are predicted to lead replacements sales.
