Companies Collaborate on Surgical Robots for the OR

Google and the New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson have announced a strategic collaboration with medical device company Ethicon to create surgical robotics aimed to benefit surgeons, patients and healthcare systems.

Google and the New Brunswick, N.J.-based Johnson & Johnson have announced a strategic collaboration with medical device company Ethicon to create surgical robotics aimed to benefit surgeons, patients and healthcare systems.

The companies say they plan to create a robotic-assisted surgical platform capable of integrating advanced technologies with the goal of improving healthcare delivery in the operating room. The collaboration was facilitated by Johnson & Johnson Innovation in California.

Robotic-assisted surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery that uses technology to give surgeons greater control, access and accuracy during the surgical procedure while benefitting patients by minimizing trauma and scarring, enabling accelerated post-surgical healing. The companies say they will look to integrate medical device technology with robotic systems, imaging, and data analytics.
