A new trade organization of health information exchange (HIE) organizations has formed, with founding members representing various areas of the country.
The nonprofit alliance, the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC), which will be based in Grand Junction, Colo., includes 19 founding HIEs. The HIEs range from statewide HIEs in Indiana, Arizona, and Utah to more regional-based HIEs and even a few hospital-based private exchanges. Robert (Bob) Steffel, former CEO of the HealthBridge of Cincinnati, has been named the Executive Director of SHIEC.
“It is an honor to join SHIEC as its Executive Director,” Steffel said in a statement. “The founding members of SHIEC have created an organization that represents a unique alliance of diverse HIEs from across the country. These HIEs play a valuable role in enabling better care coordination and more complete patient records in the communities they serve.”
