Blockchain is one of the hottest topics in health IT right now, and on this latest Healthcare Informatics podcast, Jonathan Gordon, a partner in Alston & Bird’s technology and privacy group, dives into the opportunities and roadblocks surrounding this emerging technology.

Gordon, who focuses his practice on transactions involving technology and intellectual property, and who has formed a blockchain working group in the firm, believes that “Blockchain has the potential to create full, privacy-protected, permission-based electronic health records [EHRs] so that providers can more efficiently get detailed medical information directly from patients, thus ending interoperability and consistent access headaches.”

Jonathan Gordon

On the podcast, which runs about 20 minutes, Gordon weighs in on a whole array of blockchain-related questions, including: what its greatest healthcare uses cases are; if some folks are too bullish on the technology; how stakeholders can discern hype from reality; what lessons can be learned from blockchain implementations in other industries; what blockchain pilots are happening right now; and predictions for blockchain in healthcare over the next 12 to 24 months.
