The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) will open an innovation, interoperable-focused center in Cleveland, called the Global Center for Health Innovation, the organization has announced.

The center, at the formerly named Cleveland Medical Mart, will also be doubled in size by 2016, HIMSS announced. The center will be split between providing HIMSS with a “year-round interoperability showcase and exhibition space,” and the HIMSS Health IT Ecosystem. The ecosystem will provide health IT companies and organizations a simulated environment populated with simulated patient demographic, clinical and financial data.

“We look forward to the opening in October of the HIMSS Innovation Center in the Global Center for Health Innovation. As we continue to build on our more than 14 years of leadership in and support of achieving seamless, secure exchange of electronic health information, our focus at HIMSS continues on interoperability, standards and harmonization initiatives, here in Cleveland and across the globe,” said H. Stephen Lieber, HIMSS President and CEO.

The center, HIMSS says, represents a “natural transition in the business evolution of the Cleveland Medical Mart.”

In a recent interview with HCI’s Mark Hagland, Lieber talked about what attendees of HIMSS’ annual conference can expect this year in New Orleans.
