eClinicalWorks, a Westborough, Mass.-based ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) vendor, has begun to integrate data from wearables into its patient health record product.

eClinicalWorks says it has begun to integrate data from wearable devices, from such devices as the Fitbit, iHealth, Jawbone and Withings, into its Health & Online Wellness (healow) personal health record (PHR) application. healow is an eClinicalWorks subsidiary.

“By giving consumers a single place to view their health records along with device and tracker data, it simplifies managing this information while keeping the quarterback of care, their physician, in the loop. Giving physicians a better informed idea of patient activities throughout the year can dramatically improve recommendations and outcomes. We are looking forward to teaming up with leading device companies in order to help healow evolve and make tracking healthcare easier for both patients and providers,” Girish Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks, said in a statement.

Recently, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the proposed rule for Stage 3 of meaningful use. The proposed rule includes a provision that would require providers to get 15 percent of patients to contribute PGHD or data from a non-clinical setting into the certified EHR technology during the EHR reporting period.
