Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Recognized as HIMSS Stage 7
Hartford, Conn.-based Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has been recognized as an Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) Stage 7 organization by HIMSS Analytics for its collaboration among operational, IT resources and partnering vendors to improve patient care.
HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Logic platform. And last year, HIMSS Analytics introduced its revalidation program to ensure the EMR Adoption Model “continues to reflect industry best practices so that Stage 7 organizations reflect the optimal use and sharing of patient data toward improved healthcare quality, safety, and operational efficiencies.” To revalidate, Stage 7 organizations must complete the process in the year between the second year anniversary of the original validation and its expiration.
Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center collaborated with a specialized niche electronic medical record (EMR) software company and one large vendor to build, test workflow, study, report and exchange data between the two systems, according to a HIMSS Analytics press release. The team worked closely with desktop, server and virtualization professionals to create the specific application package that was required to deploy functionality to all of the reading workstations in an organized and uniform fashion. The teams were also able to develop an application package that would allow for remote echocardiology reads.
“Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has implemented advanced capabilities that include capturing discrete data into the EMR from the cardiovascular information system and using RFID technology in the pharmacy medication dispensing process for the operating room,” John Daniels, global vice president, healthcare advisory services group, HIMSS Analytics, said in a statement. “They are experiencing some phenomenal revenue cycle benefits thanks to their focused attention on IT-enabled process efficiencies.”
“Achieving EMRAM Stage 7 validates that we are using our technology to provide safer, more efficient, cost-effective and higher quality care for our patients,” John Rodis, M.D., Saint Francis president, said. “Our unified care transitions and enhanced communication between healthcare providers will result in better care for our patients.”
Saint Francis Hospital will be recognized at the 2017 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on Feb. 19-23, 2017, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
