The Sequoia Project plans to create a new cross-organizational patient identity management workgroup and is seeking healthcare stakeholders, as well as policy and technical experts, to join the workgroup in order to focus on improving patient matching capabilities.

In 2016, The Sequoia Project, in collaboration with the Care Connectivity Consortium (CCC), published, for public comment, a patient matching framework that included a patient matching maturity model and list of minimally acceptable patient matching practices for chief information officers (CIOs), chief technology officers (CTOs) and other technology leaders to implement.

“The Patient Identity Management Work Group will disposition the public comments and determine the final cross-organizational patient identity management framework, which may then be implemented by The Sequoia Project initiatives and others nationwide. This important work is intended to increase nationwide patient matching success rates without a national patient identifier,” the Sequoia Project stated in a press release.

“The Patient Identity Management Work Group represents the launch of a broader leadership initiative to convene industry and government to solve discreet health data sharing challenges,” Mariann Yeager, CEO of The Sequoia Project, said in a statement. “We look forward to sharing practical, implementable solutions with the broader industry to the benefit of all patients and providers.”

The Sequoia Project is seeking nine to 12 member representatives from across the healthcare industry with an interest in patient identity management policy or the technical needs for successful patient matching across organizations. Healthcare stakeholders interested in receiving an application can email [email protected].
