Andrew Rosenberg, M.D., has been named the first system-wide chief information officer for three-hospital Michigan Medicine.

Rosenberg has served in a series of IT leadership roles over the past decade, including chief medical information officer and interim CIO since January 2016.

He will be responsible for enhancing collaboration across all Michigan Medicine and University of Michigan IT providers to ensure technology products and services support the institution’s research, education, and patient care mission.

Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine has three hospitals, 40 outpatient locations and home care operations that handle more than 2.1 million outpatient visits a year. The U-M Medical School is one of the nation's largest, with total research funding of more than $470 million.

A professor of anesthesiology, Rosenberg became the health system’s first chief medical information officer, where he directed the Epic EHR implementation. As interim CIO, Rosenberg integrated the U-M medical school and health system information technology groups, forming Health Information Technology & Services to support all Michigan Medicine.

“Technology leaders who come from the clinical side, like I did, are in a unique position to manage the competing priorities and needs that are particularly relevant in a large, complex academic medical center,” said Rosenberg in a prepared statement.

Since 2002, Rosenberg has served in various academic and administrative positions at U-M, including director of the Division of Critical Care in the Department of Anesthesiology, director of the Cardiovascular Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and director of the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. Rosenberg also established the Michigan Medicine Office of Clinical Informatics and served as its first executive director.
