Seattle Children's has appointed Zafar Chaudry, M.D., as senior vice president and chief information officer, effective Nov. 6. He previously served as CIO at Cambridge University Hospitals in the United Kingdom.

In addition to leading Seattle Children's Information Services team, Chaudry will provide vision and leadership for the development of technology initiatives and services; direct the planning and implementation of enterprise-wide information technology systems; and define standards and protocols for data exchange, communications, software and interconnection of health care network information systems.

At Cambridge, Chaudry and his team implemented the Epic EMR to HIMSS Stage 6, and he led the organization to be the first non-U.S. organization to achieve the U.S. “Most Wired” award in 2017. He was also named to the 2017 CIO 100 list of the most transformative CIOs in the U.K.

Chaudry replaces Jeffrey Brown, who was CIO from May 2015 to January 2017 before leaving to become CIO at Martin’s Point Health Care in Portland, Maine.

Chaudry’s background includes work in both healthcare and corporate settings in the U.S., Australia, Western Europe and the U.K., in enterprise infrastructure development; business intelligence; unified telecommunications; and implementation of healthcare information and electronic medical record systems.

Seattle Children's serves as the pediatric and adolescent academic medical center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho – the largest region of any children's hospital in the country.
