Humana, a Louisville, Ky.-based payer, is forming two offshoot companies focused in advancing population health management initiatives for providers.
Transcend, which evolved from Humana’s Management Services Organization, will provide physicians, medical groups, and integrated delivery systems with more consulting and third-party services in the areas of care coordination, financial risk management, clinical integration and patient engagement. Transcend Insights, which evolved from Humana subsidiaries, Certify Data Systems, Anvita Health and nliven systems, will be more about selling health IT products to those providers.
Specifically, Humana says it will provide interoperability platforms, analytics tools, and decision support systems that bolster population health. Through the three former companies’ histories, Transcend Insights will have more than 17,000 physicians are connected across 590 hospitals as a starting point.
The formation of these two companies is part of Humana’s goal to have 75 percent of its individual Medicare Advantage (MA) members covered under value-based relationships by 2017.The company has made strategic investments, such as its 2012 acquisition of CertifyData Systems, that reflect its shift in focus to value-based care. Marc Willard, the founder and former CEO of Certify, will be the President of Transcend Insights while Patrick Adams, formerly of the Management Services Organization will be President of Transcend.
“The launch of Transcend and Transcend Insights is reflective of Humana’s goal to improve the health of the communities we serve by making it easy for people to achieve their best health,” Bruce Broussard, Humana’s President and CEO, said in a statement. “Transcend and Transcend Insights reflect the continued evolution of Humana’s Integrated Care Delivery model. As physicians continue on their population health journeys, Transcend and Transcend Insights are strategically positioned to serve as their trusted partners while meeting their evolving population health needs.”
Transcend will be located in Louisville, while Transcend Insights will be in Campbell, Calif.
