Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius recently announced the government agency is teaming with several nationwide pharmacies in an effort to help customers learn about new Medicare benefits, specifically preventive services available to them under the Affordable Care Act.  The pharmacies CVS Caremark, Walgreens, Thrifty White, Walmart, and Sam’s Club will provide Medicare beneficiaries numerous preventive services and educational material.

“Our pharmacy partners are helping their customers make informed healthcare decisions,” Secretary Sebelius said in a statement. “These partnerships will help people with Medicare learn more about new preventive services such as mammograms, and the new Annual Wellness visit that are available at no charge for everyone with Medicare.”

In its partnership with Walmart and Sam’s Club, HHS is helping provide healthcare information to their Medicare shoppers online. In addition, CVS Caremark is distributing material about new preventive services covered at no cost to beneficiaries at many of its locations, through brochures, register receipt messages and online. Other pharmacies, such as Thrifty White and Walgreens, are rolling out other initiatives.
