Susan Turney, the CEO of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), is leaving her position at the end of the summer to take on a role as CEO of the Marshfield Clinic Health System, in Marshfield, Wisc.

Turney has been the CEO of MGMA since Oct. 2011 and has been a visible presence in advocating for healthcare organizations in the wake of increasing regulatory pressure to adopt IT systems. Most recently, Turney spoke out against the ICD-10 transition, saying that the industry is still far behind in compliance. She also advocated against Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publicly releasing hospital charge information from hospitals across the U.S., saying it could result in patients making decisions about their care based on faulty assumptions about physicians. MGMA was among the more prominent organizations that asked for a delay in imposing meaningful use penalties last year.

Turney has led the way for various internal MGMA initiatives, including its data solutions efforts, which provides healthcare research and consulting for members.  MGMA says it will begin recruiting for Turney’s replacement immediately.

“MGMA’s future is very bright. This is a decision I considered carefully and feel confident that there is tremendous momentum for the initiatives I’ve championed and I have no doubt the organization will not skip a beat,” Turney said in a statement. “I’m so proud of the team that’s in place. MGMA is a professional development organization at its core, with a laser focus on creating experiences and resources that help members every day. I will continue to be very engaged with the association as a member and will rely on MGMA resources and insights to help position Marshfield Clinic Health System for success.”
