Healthcare Informatics Recognized with Four ASHPE Awards
Healthcare Informatics has been recognized by the American Society for Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE) with four awards as part of the ASHPE’s 2016 Awards Competition, which honors writing excellence and insightful reporting among U.S. healthcare publications.
HCI received the following awards:
Gold – Best Case History – Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic profile, March/April 2015, by HCI Editor-in-Chief Mark Hagland. This article profiled the Healthcare Informatics Innovator Awards 2015 First Place Winning team. The leaders at the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic are proving that a physician organization serving an underprivileged population can create a data-driven, managed-care environment.
Silver – Best Legislative/Government Article – Telehealth Policy Picture Improving—But Slowly, September/October 2015, by HCI Contributing Editor David Raths. For almost 20 years, telehealth advocates have faced the Sisyphean task of trying to get the U.S. Congress to expand Medicare coverage for telehealth, while continuing to hammer away at the confusing landscape of state laws and regulations.
Silver – Best Special Report/Section – Top 10 Tech Trends, January/February 2015, by Hagland, Leventhal, Raths and former HCI Senior Editor Gabriel Perna. In the 2015 Top Tech Trends coverage section, editors covered the policy, technical, and operational challenges and innovations pushing the industry forward. The emerging work around telehealth, setting the roadmap on FHIR, the growing threat of cyber criminals, public health data, Big Data as part of the learning health system, the use of consumer-generated health data, closing the gaps in transitions of care, issues surrounding IT governance, HIE sustainability and the mobile physician were written about as part of that coverage
Bronze – Best Profile – Most Interesting Vendor: IBM, July/August 2015, by HCI Managing Editor Rajiv Leventhal. As part of HCI’s “Most Interesting Vendors” coverage, which profiles healthcare IT vendor firms making waves in the industry, and whose trajectories speak to broader trends. Few areas of health and medicine have gone untouched by the technology, research and innovation generated by IBM in recent decades.
Last year, Healthcare Informatics won the Silver Award for Best Special Report/Section for its 2014 Top Tech Trends reporting. This is the third straight recognition of HCI's annual Tech Trends section. It is the four straight year the publication has been recognized by ASHPE. In 2013, it won the Gold Award for Online News Coverage.
