Whenever I get the chance to advocate for a colleague-turned-friend, I jump at it. As such, I’d like to explain why electing Neal Ganguly to the CHIME Board is a smart move.

Whenever I get the chance to advocate for a colleague-turned-friend, I jump at it. As such, I’d like to explain why electing Neal Ganguly to the CHIME Board is a smart move.

I first got to know Neal early in 2008 when I interviewed him for our one-on-one series – a collection of interviews with the most influential executives in healthcare IT. In that interview, I was impressed by the fact that this ambitious new CIO was making important changes right after taking the reins at CentraState.

Ganguly accepted the job, immediately took a look at the software environment and decided to make a change from Meditech to Siemens, something we at HCI call a “big-to-big” conversion. These projects aren’t for the faint of heart, or those looking to play it safe, but fall to the bold who want to make sure their vendor/partner’s vision matches the health system’s own.

I was so impressed by our conversation that I asked Ganguly to join the growing stable of HCI bloggers, as he certainly had something to share with the rest of the industry. From that soapbox, he has eloquently communicated the challenges faced by mid-sized community hospitals in a policy world that acts as if the resources and sophistication of Partners Healthcare were the norm, rather than the exception.

Ganguly’s analysis and contributions have been invaluable to HCI readers, his leadership has been critical to the development of New Jersey’s HIMSS chapter and, if you elect him, Ganguly will continue to be an integral part of making sure CHIME remains the top professional organization for healthcare CIOs.
