Epic Career Moves - Step Two
Nov. 15, 2011
As promised in "Epic Career Moves - Step Two," I have attached my SEAK presentation to this blog post:/Media/BlogTopics/2009 Bormel - Health Informatics Careers SEAK - with notes.pdfThis PDF contains the PowerPoint slides, as well as the notes for each slide. Although still not a substitute for actually being there, the main ideas and critical references for each slide are contained in those notes. Occasionally, I had to make the fonts smaller to ensure the text wasn't cut off.As a reminder, this presentation was delivered to approximately 150 physicians interested in non-clinical careers. Most of them did not have a well developed idea of what informatics is all about, and the related basic ideas of product and project lifecycle management or, for that matter, any significant exposure to the process view of care delivery. The presentation from Dr Tonya Hongsermeier, covered the "What" of Medical Informatics. The attached presentation covers a brief review of what and where the jobs are, and then focuses on "How;" how does a physician access their understanding, and how do they learn "just-in-case" and "just-in-time" knowledge necessary to transition to healthcare informatics.I invite interested readers to post comments here, or email me directly about both the content in these presentations and what should be added in the future.
