Novant CEO Carl Armato says partnership with Privia Health expands on health system’s value-based approach to population health

Privia Health (Nasdaq: PRVA) has formed a joint venture and strategic partnership with Novant Health Enterprises, a division of nonprofit Novant Health, to launch Privia Medical Group – North Carolina. The venture will bring support and resources to independent providers throughout North Carolina and support the transition to value-based care through a clinically integrated network (CIN) model, providing a new alternative for community physicians and provider groups.

Arlington, Va.-based Privia Health describes itself as a technology-driven, national physician enablement company that collaborates with medical groups, health plans, and health systems to optimize physician practices, improve patient experiences, and reward doctors for delivering high-value care in both in-person and virtual settings.

In September, Privia announced a partnership with Columbus-based OhioHealth to launch a medical group for independent providers throughout the state of Ohio. The partnership is expected to support the growth and enhance the performance of OhioHealth’s existing clinically integrated network.

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health is an integrated network of hospitals, physician clinics and outpatient facilities that delivers a seamless and convenient healthcare experience to communities in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The Novant Health network consists of more than 1,800 physicians and over 35,000 team members who provide care at more than 800 locations, including 15 hospitals and hundreds of outpatient facilities and physician clinics.

New providers joining Privia Medical Group – North Carolina will have access to the Privia Platform, including a breadth of interoperable solutions and population health expertise to reduce administrative burden, enable care insights and collaboration.

“The Novant Health Medical Group has set the standard for unparalleled patient experience paired with high-quality, affordable healthcare for our patients,” said Carl Armato, president and CEO of Novant Health, in a statement. “Our partnership with Privia Health is the next evolution of our commitment, expanding on our value-based approach to population health through a top-tier independent primary care network across North Carolina and beyond. Novant Health is committed to providing options that best meet the needs of our physician partners.”

Privia Health recently announced that its ACOs achieved shared savings of $99.9 million through the Medicare Shared Savings Program in 2021. For the 2021 performance year, Privia Quality Network included physicians and advanced practitioners in Georgia, Maryland, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C. Since 2014, Privia Quality Network has delivered total shared savings across government programs and commercial payers of more than $740 million, including more than $380 million through participation in the MSSP, the company said.
