Allscripts EHRs Get iPad Application
Allscripts, the Chicago-based EHR software provider, has introduced an application that will bring its EHR to the iPad. The app, Allscripts Wand, will aim to help physicians review charts quickly before entering the exam room, input real-time information like vitals and medications from the exam room, and access EHR information after hours.
The app’s reportedly interface also lets clinicians: view a timeline of key patient information such as lab results, medications, vitals, and more, review appointment lists and current patient status, retrieve patient data quickly, ePrescribe with electronic transmission to pharmacies and resolve tasks and respond to messages.
iPad usage in healthcare has grown significantly over the past few years. A recent study by the Physicians Consulting Network revealed that 27 percent of primary care and specialty physicians own an iPad. The iPads have generated controversy though in the healthcare community, with tech leaders at hospitals worried about their privacy/HIPAA implications.
