The iBlueButton is being released for Intel Atom-based Android phones, Humetrix, the San Diego-based developer of the app announced.

iBlueButton, which won the Office for the National Coordinator of Health IT’s (ONC) Blue Button Mash-up Innovation Challenge, aims to makesense of the complex, text-based file that Blue Button records come in and displays the information in an understandable format. Humetrix has made it so the consumer app, which has already been made available for Apple iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad, is able to exchange securely with a professional app used by physicians.

“iBlueButton’s cross-platform iOS/Android capability lets physicians and patients share medical records and other critical information to improve patient safety and reduce wasteful procedures regardless of whether they use an Android or Apple device,” Bettina Experton, M.D., President and CEO of Humetrix, said in a statement.

The “dual app system” platform, Humetrix says, aims to allow the direct and secure transmission of Blue Button and other health records from the patient’s device to their physician’s device. This is part of an up-and-coming trend where the government, non-profits, health IT vendors, and providers are teaming up to pushing the idea of giving patients easy access to their health information.
