Kaiser Permanente, the integrated healthcare provider/payer based out of Oakland, Calif., is sharing best practices across four areas of healthcare, including connected care and advanced analytics, with the Veterans Health Administration, the two organizations announced.

The Veterans Health Administration and Kaiser Permanente are calling the partnership, the Veterans Affairs Center of Innovation Partnership Program. It will focus specifically on connected health and virtual care, genomics,  advanced analytics to leverage innovative uses of large data sets and population management, and care of patients who are veterans and also members of Kaiser Permanente.

Kaiser and the Veterans Health Administration have collaborated in the past. In 2010, the organizations agreed to share electronic health information to improve care for veterans. That was set up by a 2009 pilot which ultimately set the stage for VA Exchange capability that is currently available at 121 VA medical center locations nationwide with 14 private partners.

"Kaiser Permanente is proud to expand our collaboration with VA and tackle some of the biggest challenges in the areas of health care delivery, patient engagement, and spreading best practices," Jed Weissberg, M.D., senior vice president, Hospitals, Quality and Care Delivery Excellence, Kaiser Permanente, said in a statement.
