Tech-Focused Medical Group Startup Raises $40 Million

One Medical Group, a San Francisco-based startup that allows patients to schedule same-day appointments, request prescriptions, track their personal health between visits, and get lab results digitally, is receiving $40 million in funding this week.

One Medical Group, a San Francisco-based startup that allows patients to schedule same-day appointments, request prescriptions, track their personal health between visits, and get lab results digitally, is receiving $40 million in funding this week.

The medical group was is headed by Tom Lee, M.D., who previously founded Epocrates, and is built of a model that uses technology to better connect the patient to provider. The organization charges up to a $200 in fees for access to its network of doctors. It has 27 locations across the country and also has recently launched a service that connects with patients through telehealth via Google Helpouts.

Thus far, the startup has raised more than $117 million in funding. This latest round was led by Redmile Group. Its raised its profile through enterprise partnerships, getting more than 40 companies to offer the service through employee benefit programs.
