Cerner Demonstrates New Apple Watch App at HIMSS

Cerner demonstrates its new iOS 8 HealtheLife app, a new tool to help patients to manage their health from Apple Watch, at HIMSS 15.

With all the buzz surrounding Apple's new Watch, it was only a matter of time before healthcare companies decided to get in on the action.  This week, at HIMSS 15, a long list of companies are demonstrating a variety of different health-related apps for the Watch.  But perhaps the most hotly anticipated is Cerner's new HealtheLife app.

Cerner's iOS 8 HealtheLife allows patients to manage health data with just a flick of the wrist.  The app provides push notifications to users so they can better track personal health data including weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar values--and also offers a display dashboard of metrics so patients can track their progress over time.

“Apple Watch is the next evolution connecting consumers and their health team to the clinical community, regardless of physical location,” said Brian Carter, senior director and general manager, personal health, Cerner. “This is just the first step in the evolution of sharing personal health data – to provide physicians with access to actionable data anytime, anywhere, not just what’s collected at the doctor’s office.”

Patients can monitor their data themselves or send data directly to their Cerner Millennium® electronic health record.  Emory Healthcare and Agnesian HealthCare have already signed on to deploy the new technology to patients.  Consumers can get a sneak peek of HealtheLife for iPhone as a free download from the App Store.  Come April 24, they can download their customized watch application from the Apple Watch App Store.
