NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital has launched a mobile communication application that will connect providers and staff members across multiple departments and six campuses.

The application, NYPConnect, aims to solve the challenge of tracking a patient’s flow throughout the hospital system during their stay. “Given these challenges, as well as our focus on improving the patient and provider experience, we embarked on an initiative to develop an innovative mobile communication tool that allows all care team members to communicate easily with one another,”  Steven J. Corwin, M.D. CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital said in a statement.

On top of messaging capabilities, the app includes functions that allow the providers and staff to input real-time data on the patient’s status. The hospital expects that the system will help it put paging systems out to pasture. They also expect to improve the app with functions that show the real-time availability of colleagues, video conferencing for multidisciplinary rounds, and comprehensive search/filter capabilities.
