The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will host an Opioid Symposium and Code-a-Thon Dec. 6 and 7 to promote and employ innovative ways to leverage technology and data to address the nationwide opioid epidemic.

HHS is planning the Opioid Symposium to showcase promising practices in data and technology that have improved outcomes in communities across the country that state and local leaders can bring back to their communities. The Symposium will take place 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on December 6th at HHS headquarters in Washington, D.C. Along with registering to join in-person, the event can also be viewed via a live videostream.
HHS also wants to bring together computer programmers, public health experts, data scientists, researchers, and innovators to develop data-driven solutions to combat the opioid epidemic, building on HHS’ five-part strategy. The Code-a-Thon will take place from 1 p.m. December 6 through 6 p.m. December 7 at HHS headquarters in Washington, D.C. This will be an in-person event only.
Interested participants will be required to form teams that consist of 3 to 5 individuals. About 25 teams will be able to participate due to limited space.
