Memorial Healthcare Widens Digital Front Door With KeyCare
South Florida-based academic medical center Memorial Healthcare System is partnering with startup KeyCare for its virtual care platform MemorialDOCNow. Earlier this year, WellSpan Health announced it was adopting the KeyCare platform.
Chicago-based KeyCare distinguishes itself from other virtual care companies by saying it offers health systems the ability to easily augment their care teams, optimize capacity, and “widen their digital front doors” by partnering with a nationwide network of virtual care providers working on its Epic platform, which then connects easily to other Epic-based health systems.
“In just a few short years, the delivery of care without an in-person visit has gone from barely on-the-radar to revolutionizing healthcare,” said Bill Manzie, administrative director of telehealth at Memorial Healthcare System, in a statement. “Our partnership with KeyCare will enable us to provide more accessible, coordinated and comprehensive healthcare services to our customers.”
Memorial is live with KeyCare and patients are able to conduct appointments with virtualist healthcare providers via MemorialDOCNow in Memorial’s MyChart portal. Virtualists have access to each patient’s Memorial data as they provide care and complete encounter details on KeyCare’s Epic platform and share results with members of a patient’s Memorial care team.
Earlier this year, KeyCare announced that WellSpan Health, an integrated delivery system serving South Central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, had adopted its platform and was an investor in the company.
“WellSpan is excited to be both an early innovative partner and investor with KeyCare as it continues to grow and positively shape the future of healthcare,” said R. Hal Baker, M.D., senior vice president and chief digital and chief information officer for WellSpan, in a statement. “KeyCare’s virtual care platform provides the most seamless virtual care experience for patients and ensures they have 24X7 access to high-quality services. With the addition of KeyCare’s virtual care team, our patients will experience a much more integrated online care experience than is available with any other service in the market. Ultimately, this approach increases access to care for all patients.”
In January, KeyCare announced its Series A funding of more than $27 million, with investors such as Ziegler, 8VC, LRVHealth, Bold Capital, and Spectrum Health Ventures. "With the completion of our Series A funding, KeyCare is well-positioned to continue the optimization of our platform and provide virtual care services to additional health system partners," said Lyle Berkowitz, M.D., CEO of KeyCare, when the funding round was announced.
Berkowitz has co-founded several healthcare startups and was the founder and chairman of healthfinch, a workflow optimization software company that was purchased by Health Catalyst in 2020. He spent several years as the chief medical officer and executive vice president of product strategy for MDLive, one of the nation's largest telehealth medical groups.
