$40 BILLION. That could be the total cost if a hospital that houses 1,000,000 patient records experiences a data breach. Data breaches and cyberattacks in modern healthcare are not a matter of if, but when. According to a recent research study conducted by the Ponemon Institute, healthcare organizations typically receive one cyberattack per month, and this is just the beginning. In that same study, another 48 percent of respondents reported a breach involving a loss or exposure of protected health information over the past year. Healthcare is continuing to struggle, and the state of industry is one of sweeping change with an emphasis on securing the patient record.
