The major challenge in any academic surgical department is how best to train young surgeons to perform hands-on techniques without the learning curve having a negative impact on patients. At the same time, experienced surgeons need access to realistic training models to help them develop their skills, take advantage of emerging technologies, and plan complex surgical procedures.
Current training methods for interventional procedures are quite problematic; they are logistically challenging and time consuming, involving complex planning and manual steps, and there are ethical considerations when training in an operating room environment. It is also important to optimize tools and costs – including time and materials – to improve efficiency.
Join our webinar and learn how the Marie Lannelongue Hospital in Paris has collaborated with GE Healthcare to establish a hybrid operating room (OR), using 3D printed models of diseased vasculature to provide surgeons with valuable hands-on experience comparable to that of operating on patients in ‘real life’. This groundbreaking program is set to rtransform training in interventional procedures, increasing efficiency and throughput as students revel in the opportunities provided by this novel enterprise.
