Kodiak Solutions releases report revealing AI as a significant risk across healthcare organizations

In a recent report by Kodiak Solutions on the top five management risks for healthcare in 2024, AI was mentioned as a risk area. The report states that the benefits of AI and new technologies will introduce new risks.

The report grants that the benefits to the healthcare industry from AI, machine learning (ML), and other new technologies will be substantial over the coming years. The report mentions benefits such as increased efficiencies regarding automated clinical documentation, confirmation of insurance coverage, quicker and more accurate diagnosis, and improved patient and customer experience, such as appointment scheduling.

With the amount of data involved with AI and ML model training comes the risk of that data being exposed by cybercriminals. This data could be subject to HIPAA and state privacy regulations. Insufficient data in AI models could influence data-driven insights, potentially critical for patient care. Then, there is the potential for bias due to lack of data.

The report identified risk areas based on input from management and board members from large health systems and risk assessments at numerous hospitals and health care organizations.
