ABINGTON, PA (December 2, 2009)—Richard L. Jones, Jr., president and CEO, Abington Memorial Hospital, is pleased to announce the formation of Abington Health, a new not-for-profit, regional healthcare system offering more care and more options for healthcare consumers from Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties.
“Abington Health will provide the trusted care the community has come to expect from its flagship hospital, Abington Memorial Hospital, at more facilities and centers throughout the area,” said Jones. “As our tagline says, ‘our power to health is stronger than ever.’”
Abington Health is comprised of two suburban hospitals: Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington and Lansdale Hospital in Hatfield Township. In addition, Abington Health has convenient outpatient facilities, including Abington Health Center — Schilling Campus in Willow Grove, Abington Health Center — Warminster Campus in Bucks County and Abington Physicians at Montgomeryville in North Wales, which offer routine and sophisticated testing and diagnostic services. Together, these facilities serve more than 44,000 inpatients, 123,000 emergency patients and over 560,000 outpatient visits annually. Abington Health Physicians is a physician network of specialists and primary care physicians employed by Abington Memorial Hospital and Lansdale Hospital.
Founded in 1914, Abington Memorial Hospital remained an independent hospital until the acquisition of Warminster Hospital in 2007. A year later in 2008, Central Montgomery Medical Center was acquired. These acquisitions provided an opportunity for restructuring.
“This is an exciting and extraordinary time in our organization’s history,” said Jones. “Abington Health’s mission, vision and values are being adopted by all of our facilities and will guide their daily operations and their employees in their work each day. We are positioned to evolve and grow in our service to the community.”
Abington Health employs over 6,100 employees, making it one of the largest employers in Montgomery County. All told, Abington Health’s medical staff consists of more than 1,200 primary care physicians and medical and surgical specialists, as well as over 125 physicians-in-training within five residency programs. More than 1,300 volunteers give their time and talents to support these not-for-profit facilities, and more than $45 million in free care is provided to our community each year. As a non-profit, Abington Health provides care to all who come in need, regardless of ability to pay.
