Sound Shore Health System Selects Eclipsys to Build an Integrated EHR

Feb. 23, 2010

Atlanta-Feb. 18, 2010 —Eclipsys Corporation® (NASDAQ: ECLP), The Outcomes Company®, today announced that Sound Shore Health System (SSHS) will undergo an accelerated activation of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Enterprise™ integrated suite of solutions at both its Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester (New Rochelle, NY) and Mount Vernon Hospital (Mount Vernon, NY) facilities. The goal behind the comprehensive information technology initiative is to create an integrated electronic health record (EHR) across SSHS’s multiple care venues to improve the quality, safety and continuity of patient care. The automation of key healthcare processes also sets the stage for the community-based teaching hospitals to meet the expected “meaningful use” requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. By qualifying for stimulus funds, SSHS looks to reinvest in further facility upgrades and support enhanced physician connectivity throughout the community.

After conducting a thorough, competitive market search, SSHS chose Eclipsys based on its solid track record of supporting clients in achieving deep physician adoption of technology-a key requirement for meeting ARRA “meaningful use”-as well as its industry-leading, open technology platform, which is designed to help clients leverage rapid innovations in technology to keep pace with the dynamic challenges of the healthcare industry.

“In looking for a long-term technology and clinical solutions partner, Eclipsys offered the most advanced technology vision that provides for true interoperability between the Eclipsys solutions and disparate systems across environments. The company also has a solid track record of supporting deep technology adoption both with large academic clients and community hospitals,” said John R. Spicer, president and chief executive officer, Sound Shore Health System. “Because of those two factors, we believe Eclipsys is the right choice to help us achieve our efficiency and clinical effectiveness goals, while providing SSHS a technology platform to meet our current and future needs, such as easier ability to leverage unanticipated innovations in healthcare technology.”

SSHS will deploy a wide range of Eclipsys’ integrated clinical, access management and revenue cycle applications utilizing the company’s “speed to value” implementation approach to accelerate the EHR activation and to help SSHS meet the specified ARRA timeline requirements to maximize stimulus payment opportunities. These applications include the company’s market-leading computerized physician order entry (CPOE) solution, integrated pharmacy information system, orders reconciliation and e-prescribing solutions to enhance clinical decision making and improve the speed and accuracy of medication dispensing. SSHS also selected Sunrise Emergency Care™ to support faster time to patient treatment and enhanced continuity of care between departments. It also plans to take advantage of advanced capabilities provided by Eclipsys’ Sunrise Clinical Analytics™  solution to track and measure clinical performance to improve quality, enhance medication safety and its ability to meet the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures and Joint Commission standards.

SSHS’s investment in Eclipsys’ access management solution will extend the power of its enterprise EHR to front-end registration and scheduling processes. Once implemented, these applications will support administrative staff in more efficiently gathering patient demographic data and payment verification, such as medical necessity checking to enhance admissions efficiency and patient satisfaction. Meanwhile, Eclipsys’ revenue cycle solution, Sunrise Patient Financials™, will support SSHS in more effectively managing the business aspects of the healthcare organization. All of these mission-critical applications will be remotely hosted at Eclipsys’ Technology Solutions Center in Mountain Lakes, NJ.  Eclipsys’ remote hosting meets ISO 9001 Quality Management certification standards and SAS 70 auditing standards.
