One-on-One with HUMC's CIO Lex Ferrauiola and CTO Ben BordonaroHackensack University Medical Center's IT chiefs are taking on the ultimate task — a big to big conversion. CIO Lex Ferrauiola and CTO Ben Bordonaro are turning HUMC from a medical center held together with interfaces, to a truly integrated organization, promoting data transfer across the continuum of care, from inpatient services to ambulatory physician practices.


One-on-One with KLAS President Kent Gale

Orem, Utah-based KLAS is one of the most respected sources of information in the healthcare IT industry, producing reports that CIOs pay major bucks to possess. In fact, a number of CIOs have told HCI that KLAS reports are one of the main tools they use when starting down the path of vendor selection. But nobody's perfect, and KLAS has had some hurdles to overcome. In the following interview, HCI Editor-in-Chief Anthony Guerra talks with KLAS President Kent Gale about all of the above, and more.


One-on-One with Christus Health CIO George Conklin

George Conklin has held the CIO role at Dallas-based Christus Health since 1999 when Sister of Charity Health System (where he briefly served as CIO) and Incarnate Word Health combined to form a united system. He is focused on providing patients with the guidance and support needed to make them accountable for their own healthcare. Conklin faces a significant challenge as the 50-plus network begins a long-term project of integrating information from across the organization as it seeks to continue to grow acute care, while also building non-acute and retail areas as well as international operations.


One-on-One with the Noblis Center's Alan Dowling

The Noblis Center for Health Innovation is a nonprofit science, technology and strategy organization that helps clients solve complex systems, and process and infrastructure problems in ways that benefit the public. HCI Editor-in-Chief Anthony Guerra recently had a chance to talk with Alan Dowling, Executive Director of the Center, about the pertinent issues facing CIOs today. Dowling says CIOs can get physicians onboard with healthcare IT — they just have to make the case.
