Advantedge Joins IBM's VIP

Warren, N.J.-based Advantedge Healthcare Solutions (AHS) has joined IBM's Vertical Industry Program as a provider of medical billing software.

This partnership gives AHS access to IBM's marketing and sales support for small to midsize business customers.

According to AHS, it will provide medical billing technology running on the IBM “all-in-one” System i platform, including the new System i Express 515 and System i Express 525.

Amicas Gets IMAGINEradiology

Boston-based Amicas, a provider of radiology and medical image and information management solutions, acquired ownership rights to the IMAGINEradiology practice management software platform.

Under the terms of the agreement, AMICAS purchased a copy of the source code to the IMAGINEradiology software, and an array of transition services from venture capital firm, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Technology Partners.

The IMAGINEradiology platform will be re-branded as Vision Series Financials, and combined with Amicas' Windows-based RIS and PACS to create a radiology automation solution.

Carestream Operates Independently

Carestream Health Inc., a provider of health and imaging IT solutions based in Ontario, Canada, recently began operating as an independent company serving customers in 150 countries.

The company originated as a business unit within Rochester, N.Y.-based Eastman Kodak Company, and brings over 1,000 patents from its former owners. According to Carestream, it offers a suite of traditional and digital solutions to medical, dental, and molecular imaging systems.

Carestream Health will continue to use the Kodak brand with its products, says the company, which now owns all former Health Group sub-brands including Carestream, DirectView, Softdent, Industrex, X-Sight and PracticeWorks.

Gateway EDI Acquires PMG

St Louis, Mo.-based Gateway EDI, a national healthcare electronic data interchange (EDI) provider, recently acquired the Professional Management Group of Virginia Inc. (PMG), Richmond.

Effective immediately, Gateway EDI will serve PMG clients through its network of solutions and providers, which now includes over 30,000 providers nationwide.

Both companies are privately held. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

MED3000 Focues on Populations

MED3OOO Inc. recently purchased the Trizetto Facets e2 enterprise software and Clinical CareAdvance care management module to enhance population health management initiatives with its independent practice association (IPA) and health plan clients.

MED3OOO, a national healthcare management and technology company based in Pittsburg, will initially begin deploying these solutions with Health First Network in Pensacola, Fla.

The population health management initiatives, which include disease management, case management, and predictive modeling, will help the IPA to identify patients at risk for advanced disease and multiple morbid conditions, MED3000 contends.

HealthEdge Partners with ChoiceMaker

Burlington, Mass.-based HealthEdge, a healthcare software company, is partnering with New York-based ChoiceMaker Technologies Inc., a provider of demographic matching software.

Under the terms of the partnership, HealthEdge will embed ChoiceMaker's matching technology in HealthRules, the company's solution for claims and benefit management, to deliver an increase in auto-adjudication rates.

According to HealthEdge, ChoiceMaker's solution is capable of finding all possible matches and avoiding incorrect matches, thereby providing accurate member and provider identification.

Kodak Links with Medlink

Eastman Kodak Company's Health Group and MedLink International Inc. have signed a co-marketing agreement to promote each company's medical imaging, information and software products throughout the United States.

MedLink, located in Islandia, N.Y., will refer healthcare facilities interested in purchasing Kodak's Carestream RIS/PACS and information management solutions and related professional services to Kodak's Health Group.

Kodak, located in Rochester, N.Y., will refer its diagnostic imaging center customers interested in acquiring MedLink's VPN and EHR solution to MedLink International.

Optimus Launches New Practice Area

Atlanta-based Optimus Solutions recently launched a new practice dedicated to serving the IT needs of hospitals, physicians groups, insurance providers and integrated delivery networks.

In addition to disaster recovery, Optimus claims it provides security solutions, applications to track staff schedules, patients and supplies in real time, and assistance in the development of dashboards with single sign-on access that integrate security across multiple computer systems.

SNOMED SDO Picks Up CT

The International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization (IHTSDO), also known as SNOMED SDO, has acquired the intellectual property rights of SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) and its antecedents from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for $7.8 million.

SNOMED SDO will assume responsibility for the ongoing maintenance, development and distribution of SNOMED CT.

InfoLogix Gets RFID

InfoLogix Inc., Hatboro, Pa., a provider of mobile intelligence technology solutions, recently acquired a radio frequency identification (RFID) patent portfolio from DDMS Holdings LLC.

InfoLogix claims the acquisition strengthens its current Mobile Care Stations and RFID-based software systems.

The patent portfolio consists of five issued U.S. patents and 10 pending patent applications, and allows coverage to be extended to applications in more than 30 countries. According to InfoLogix, the inventors of RFID agreed to provide consulting services related to the commercialization and development of the acquired patent portfolio.

GE Signs OEM With Kryptiq

Barrington, Ill.-based GE Healthcare has signed an OEM agreement to private label and distribute Kryptiq's connectivity suite in conjunction with Centricity Practice Solutions.

According to Kryptiq, its solution includes document management, clinical messaging, and patient portal solutions. The solution is designed to enable provider-to-provider collaboration and online patient services, says the company.

Kryptiq Corporation, a provider of workflow and connectivity solutions for the healthcare industry, is based in Hillsboro, Ore.

Meditech Tackles Tech

Westwood, Mass.-based Meditech, a vendor of healthcare information systems, is acquiring its long-time partner Patient Care Technologies (PtCt), a provider of home care, hospice, tele-health, private duty, and benchmarking software.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Meditech states that PtCT will become an independent subsidiary. According to Meditech, the acquisition will provide the short-term and long-term resources for PtCt to continue developing and delivering software products for home care providers.

There are no plans for PtCT to relocate its operations from Atlanta, or to merge the company with Meditech.

Both firms are privately held, and specific terms of the acquisition were not released.

Lorian Scooping Medworxx Shares

Lorian Capital Corp, a capital pool company, plans to purchase all issued and outstanding securities of Toronto, Ontario-based Medworxx Inc.

Medworxx is a Toronto-based software company focused on the North American healthcare market. Its software comprises an integrated suite of solutions, including portal (with single sign-on), content management, learning management, policies and procedures, utilization management, and emergency readiness solutions, according to the company.

The transaction is subject to the approval of the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV), where Lorian is listed. According to the company, the deal should close by July 15.

Spring Medical Partners with Neusoft Technologies

Houston, Texas-based Spring Medical Systems, a provider of software solutions for medical practices, has partnered with Marietta, Ga.-based Nuesoft Technologies to provide integrated electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems (PMS) for smaller practices.

Through the agreement, Spring Medical Systems' EHR application, SpringCharts, will be integrated with Nuesoft's Internet-based NueMD to streamline clinical processes and share data across the practice, say both companies.

According to Spring Medical, the solution will facilitate the management of both the clinical and business side of a medical practice, and includes a certified interface based on Health Level 7 (HL7) standards between both products.

SureScripts Snaps up MedAvant

Alexandria, Va. –based SureScripts, operator of the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange, has acquired Norcross, Ga.-based MedAvant Healthcare Solutions' electronic prescribing network, a physician-to-pharmacy electronic prescription network.

SureScripts is not purchasing MedAvant's physician desktop application, PreScribe.

SureScripts and MedAvant are transitioning all electronic prescription transactions and connectivity from the MedAvant electronic prescribing network to the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange.

According to SureScripts, the acquisition will allow physicians that were formerly on the MedAvant network to reach more pharmacies electronically. It also allows physicians and their technology vendors to communicate with pharmacies through a single network, using a single set of certifications based on nationally accepted standards for e-prescribing, the organization stated.
