Nashville, Tenn.-based Emdeon Business Services has launched a suite of services that aims to simplify remittance tasks and helps analyze claim denials and underpayments.

“ our latest offering will enable providers to streamline their remittance denials, resubmission and payment posting process,” says George Lazenby, executive vice president, Emdeon Business Services.

Emdeon ERA Manager is a Web-based application that interprets electronic remittance advice (ERA) received from government and commercial insurance carriers and calculates expected payments to accelerate secondary billing and/or rebilling. The product links clients to payers via Emdeon's clearinghouse.

Emdeon Denial Manager aims to help providers organize and manage remittance inventory and arrange, prioritize and monitor denials and underpayments. With the information produced, providers can determine root causes, patterns and process breakdowns responsible for denials, in order to establish corrective steps to prevent future revenue loss or delay, according to the company.

Both Emdeon Denial Manager and Emdeon ERA Manager are integrated with Emdeon Claim Master — Emdeon's Web-based claims management solution.

EnovateIT Carts the T5

The T5 features a 16.5" × 20.5" mobile point-of-care footprint — one of the smallest and lightest on the market, according to the company. The T5 has push and/or pull handles, which are accessible from three sides, and casters for use on hard floor and/or carpeting.

The cart is designed to provide spill protection for notebooks and can be customized to individual height adjustments and right- or left-handed mouse users. A security system locks all computer equipment to deter theft.

The EnovateIT cart features a built-in lockable storage unit for an optional lithium battery and a 10' retractable, medical-grade power cable system.

The Link-Up

While many businesses are increasingly adopting WLAN technology and opting for the NetLink Wi-Fi VoIP technology, Boulder, Colo.-based SpectraLink, says it has found there is still a strong customer need for a dedicated voice system. Companies who are not ready to make the plunge into VoIP are realizing the benefits of a dedicated wireless infrastructure like the Link WTS which claims to offer minimal administration, high reliability and integration with the organization's existing telephony system, the company touts.

The phone's enhanced features include a speakerphone for impromptu conferences and lithium-ion battery packs for talk times of up to eight hours. The Link 6020 handset also offers added durability, according to the company, by supporting the IP 53 standard for water and dust resistance. Additional enhancements include a slim, lightweight design and a larger display screen.

SpectraLink's phone utilizes proprietary spread spectrum radio technology in the unlicensed 902 – 928 MHz band to deliver in-building wireless coverage and interference immunity. Through the Open Application Interface (OAI), the phone provides two-way text messaging and alarm integration for applications such as paging, nurse call alarm and CRM systems for communication throughout the enterprise.

Formulating the Right Rx

Responding to the demand for comprehensive formulary resources on mobile devices by specialty, Marlborough, Mass.-based Skyscape has unveiled its RxPlan.

According to the company, with RxPlan, prescribers can search by drug name, class or clinical system and browse drug lists within each formulary, to more easily select alternatives based on individual patients' health plans.

RxPlan contains formularies for over 4,700 health plans, including Medicare Part D and Medicaid, and continuously updates the status of over 12,000 drugs.

“With the growing number of healthcare options available to patients today, it was important for us to develop a mobile resource that provides the coverage information for medications to the prescribers,” says Sandeep Shah, president and CEO.

“With the addition of RxPlan, the prescribers can now conveniently determine if the drug of choice is approved by their patients' health plan or find alternatives by referring to the linked drug information resource of their choice, such as RxDrugs,” Shah says.

The Skyscape product is designed for Palm, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile PDAs and Windows and/or TablePCs.

Virtual Business

Andover, Mass.-based Sentillion, Inc., a provider of identity and access management solutions for healthcare, has rolled out a new business — vBusiness. According to the company, the strategic business unit is focused on delivering virtualized software solutions to enable companies in any industry to extend computing beyond the boundaries of the corporate network, without sacrificing performance or security. President of Sentillion vBusiness, Paul Roscoe, who previously served as senior vice president of field operations for Sentillion, will oversee and manage the new business unit reporting directly to the company's CEO, Robert Seliger.

ePremis, Primed and Ready-to-Go

Per-Se Technologies of Alpharetta, Ga. has released an enhanced version of its ePremis claims management system.

Aimed at helping hospitals improve revenue and reduce costs, version 2.5's new features include payer claim status, extended Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) capabilities and support for the National Provider Identifier (NPI) standard. Per-Se's workflow-oriented product is an all-payer claims management solution available either as a Web-based ASP service or a traditional turnkey software, according to the company.

Version 2.5 routes claims to hospital billing staff based upon the latest payer claim claim type and then links it to the claim. If claim status has not been received, Per-Se's medical transaction clearinghouse will continue to send solicited claim status requests to the payer, on behalf of the hospital, until the payer finalizes the claim, according to marketing material. The automation is said to result in earlier identification and correction of claim errors for faster adjudication.
