Devin Jopp, Ed. D is stepping down from his role of president and CEO of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) after four years leading the national health IT organization.

The Reston, Va.-based organization, formed in 1991 by the Secretary for Health and Human Services (HHS), is an authority on the use of health IT to improve healthcare information exchange. In the 1996 Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, WEDI was named an official technical adviser to HHS and the organization played a pivotal role in the transition to the ICD-10 coding system.

During his tenure, Dr. Jopp coordinated the development of the landmark 2013 WEDI Report, which serves as an industry consensus roadmap for the next generation of healthcare data exchange.  Additionally, Dr. Jopp helped facilitate the creation of the “virtual clipboard,” an industry initiative created to automate the typically paper-intensive check-in process at clinical care centers.

“The Board expresses its appreciation to Dr. Jopp for his service as CEO over the past four years and we wish him well in his future endeavors,” Jean Narcisi, chair of the WEDI Board of Directors, said in a statement. “WEDI remains steadfast in its commitment to improving the quality of healthcare through effective and efficient information exchange, and we look forward to a new year of growth, innovation and collaboration with our members.”

“It has been a true pleasure serving WEDI and its incredible members over the past four years,” Dr. Jopp said. “As I look ahead, I remain extremely excited about the future of the organization and the important role that WEDI plays in promoting the effective use of health information technology.”

The WEDI Board of Directors has formed a search committee to identify a replacement.
